SEA Games 2023: Women’s Badminton Wins Silver, Rionny Asks Players to Respond in Individuals

– The Indonesian women’s badminton team had to settle for winning a silver medal after being defeated by Thailand in the final round of the 2023 SEA Games, Thursday (11/5/2023).

Women’s singles Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi and Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, and doubles Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi were forced to admit the superiority of badminton players from the White Elephant Country.

Head of Development and Achievement Division of PP PBSI Rionny Mainaky asked the players to avenge the defeat in the team event when playing in the individual event.

Rionny considered the defeat to provide meaningful experience for female badminton players. Moreover, the Indonesian women’s squad is filled with young players.

According to Rionny, the three Indonesian representatives who had competed earlier put pressure on their opponents which was quite difficult even though the results were not as expected.

“Komang played well but still has to develop ways of pressing him, when he’s in the lead you have to put even more pressure on him,” said Rionny.

Meanwhile, the Ana/Tiwi pair who took part in the second party, he said, started the match not well. After finding a rhythm, Ana/Tiwi said they made a lot of mistakes themselves.

As for Ester, said Rionny, actually his strokes and patterns were correct but lacked variety.
