Social media that are not cooperative in handling online gambling are threatened with a fine of IDR 500 million

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, is increasingly determined to eradicate online gambling, whose spread is increasingly disturbing. In fact, Budi Arie did not hesitate to ask social media platforms and internet service providers (ISP) to block content and access to online gambling sites.

Budi Arie said that social media companies that do not cooperate in handling online gambling cases will be subject to fines of up to IDR 500 million per online gambling content.

“If they are not cooperative in eradicating online gambling content, then I will impose a fine of up to IDR 500 million per online gambling content uploaded on the platform,” said Budi Arie Setiadi, in an online press conference, Friday (24/5/2024).

Meanwhile, ISPs or internet service providers who do not want to eradicate online gambling are threatened with having their operational permits revoked.

“If the ISP is not cooperative in eradicating online gambling, then I will revoke your (ISP) permit,” said Budi Arie.

Currently, according to the Minister of Communication and Information, many social media platforms are collaborating with Kominfo to eradicate online gambling content in their applications.

However, there are still social media platforms operating in Indonesia that are not cooperative in blocking access to the dissemination of information or online gambling content on their platforms.

Previously, in an effort to eradicate online gambling, the ranks of ministers and an internal cabinet meeting attended by President Joko Widodo formed an online gambling eradication task force to stop the spread of online gambling in Indonesia.
