What is the best electric bike? And which one has the best value for money? NU.nl and the Consumers’ Association provide answers.

An electric bike is not cheap. But despite the price, they are very popular and at the low point of the corona pandemic they were not to be dragged. The advantage of an e-bike is of course that with the electric support you can make cycling as heavy as you want.

The Consumers’ Association tests e-bikes on, among other things, electric support, range and operation and equipment of the bicycle. A total of more than 540 electric bikes have been tested that are reasonably to well available.

From commuting to longer bike rides, this bike from Cube can handle it just fine. It cycles smoothly and also has a powerful motor. Even uphill you can easily reach about 25 km per hour. The bike is available in two colors: dark gray or mocha.

With the 625 Wh battery you can cycle quite a bit. It is incorporated into the frame of the bike. The motor is so powerful that you can often lower the support. The energy consumption is therefore not too bad. As a result, a distance of more than 100 kilometers of cycling is feasible on one full charge.

The twelve-speed derailleur gear feels sporty. Shifting is nice and fast and smooth. The chain case at a derailleur is open. As a result, maintenance is needed a little earlier, but that is a bit easier than with a closed cabinet.

The e-bike has both suspension in the front fork and in the seatpost, and it has wide tires of 55 millimeters. This makes you very comfortable cycling, despite the hunched over, sporty sitting position. (Tested: this is the best electric bike)

He also has some negatives. For example, there is no lock on this bike as standard. In addition, charging the battery takes quite a bit of time. It takes about nine hours to fully charge it.

Compared to the Cube, you do give up something on various points with this model of Pegasus. But on the other hand, it is considerably cheaper to purchase.

At 500 Wh, the battery is a bit lighter than that of the Cube, but the performance is good. The engine is a bit less powerful, but feels pleasant and natural. The battery is on the back of this bike and not in the frame.

Instead of a derailleur, this bike has seven hub gears. This shifts a bit less sporty, but also entails less maintenance. This e-bike has a closed chain case.

It is equipped with front fork suspension and offers a comfortable sitting position. And despite the fact that the tires are a bit narrower (44 millimeters) and it has no seatpost suspension, the comfort is fine.

A disadvantage is that with steeper hills you notice that the engine is less powerful. If you prefer not to, then it is better to choose a model with a more powerful engine.
