This is Jokowi’s message to Bima Sakti regarding the selection of the U-17 national team for the World Cup

– A total of 187 youth players from various football academies and regional training programs (Pelatda) in West Java participated in the selection process in preparation for the U-17 World Cup which will take place in November.

The selection process took place at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Kutawaringin, Bandung Regency, West Java, on Wednesday (12/7/23) morning, and was attended by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). These young talents are competing for a place in the team that will compete in this prestigious event.

The coach of the U-17 Indonesia national team, Bima Sakti, said that Bandung was the first city to hold this selection. Bima also mentioned that in carrying out this selection, the coaches were assisted by Persib and the West Java Football Provincial Association (Asprov).

“Alhamdulillah, the first selection in 10 cities started in Bandung, and we are grateful for the President’s attention. We are working with the Persib club and have received assistance from West Java Asprov,” said Bima Sakti when met at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Wednesday (12/ 7/23).

“We provide an opportunity for all young people born in 2006-2007 to take part in the selection for the U-17 national team in preparation for the World Cup in November. This involves players from Sabang to Merauke, but we only visit 10 cities and will select the best players according to with predetermined criteria,” added Bima.

Bima has not been able to confirm how many players will be selected in this selection. He wants to see the quality and needs of the team he will handle.

“We want to see the quality of the players, depending on the quality and needs of our team. We have delivered the standards we asked for, and later we will see how they perform in the game, both individually, in groups and team tactics,” said the former national team player the.

Bima added that all the players participating in the selection at Jalak Harupat this time were selected players from West Java, coming from various academies, the Regional Student Sports Week (Popda), and so on.

“Only players from all over West Java, including from the academy and Popda. This is specifically for players who come from West Java,” said Bima.

When asked about the conversation with the President during the meeting on the field earlier, Bima revealed that the President really appreciated what PSSI and its staff had done in the face of the U-17 World Cup.

“The president said that this selection was very good, giving young people from Sabang to Merauke an opportunity. This World Cup moment is our shared passion. Hopefully the U-17 team, according to the procedure described, will become the foundation for the senior team in the future,” said Bima.
