– The Executive Board of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi) through the National Team Agency has determined 18 players for the FIBA ​​U-16 Asian Championship SEABA Qualifiers 2023 team. This was done through a national selection (seleknas) in Surabaya which is entering its final phase.

The person in charge of national selection Andika Supriadi Saputra explained, from the selection since July 5, 18 players had finally been selected on (7/7). They were elected after defeating their competitors.

“Congratulations to the selected players. This is a rare opportunity because not many young people your age have the opportunity to defend the Red and White flag in the international arena,” said Andika when confirmed on Saturday (8/7/2023).

According to him, before narrowing down to 18 names, the players were selected by dividing them into three groups. This step was taken to provide as many opportunities as possible to young people in Indonesia.

Group 1, which contains players recommended by Perbasi for provinces, districts and cities, has 45 players.

Then Group 2 which is the result of monitoring by Perbasi and the National Team Agency, there are 20 names. As for Group Three, there will be 12 players monitored during the 2022 National Championship. A total of 77 players took part in the national selection.

From these 77 names, it was then reduced to 45 names on July 6. After that, it will be squeezed again into 18 names on July 7 2023. After this, there will also be reductions according to the needs of the team in the championship later.

“We salute the enthusiasm of the players. All of them have potential because they have what is needed in playing basketball. However, we are faced with a situation where we must decide on players in the near future. We are running against time, so we have to decide which players are best prepared to face them. events closest,” said Andika Saputra.

In the FIBA ​​U-16 Asian Championship SEABA Qualifiers 2023, Indonesia is the host. Surabaya was appointed as the organizer by using GOR CLS to be venues implementation.

This event was attended by four countries. Apart from Indonesia as the host, there are Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.

The general chairman of PP Perbasi, Danny Kosasih explained, the holding of this national selection was to provide as many opportunities as possible for Indonesian youth to defend the Red and White flag in the international arena. During the selection process, no player is privileged. All players are treated the same.

“He is a former national team player. We chose him because of his experience in handling age-group teams. He successfully brought the East Java Team to win the Bangka Belitung U-15 National Championship. We are optimistic that through this event we can compete for two tickets to the U-16 Asian Cup which will be held on September 17-24,” said Susuk, Danny Kosasih’s close nickname.
