To have a blue tick on Twitter, you have to pay, Elon Musk reveals that he is treating 3 public figures with subscription fees
Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Twitter has removed the free blue tick or what is known as Legacy. The blue tick was previously a sign of account verification before Elon Musk headed Twitter.
Thus, an account that wants to get proof of verification or a blue check must first subscribe to Twitter Blue. This rule also applies to all accounts, including public figures.
Because of this, now a number of public figures that were previously verified with a blue tick no longer receive it. Some of them are writer JK Rowling, footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, actor Robert Downey Jr. to Pope Francis.
What’s interesting, however, is that there are several public figures who still have the blue tick. One of them is LeBron James.
In fact, the basketball player is one of those who blatantly refuses to pay a Twitter subscription fee to get a blue tick. After tracing, it turned out that there were several accounts of public figures whose Twitter Blue subscription fees were paid for by Elon Musk himself.
Citing information from The VergesSaturday (22/4/2023), Elon Musk, through his tweet, admitted that he paid subscription fees for a number of accounts belonging to other people.
“I pay (subscription fees) several (accounts) personally,” Elon wrote. Then, in another tweet, he revealed the account name of a public figure who was treated to a Twitter subscription fee.
In addition to LeBron James, the Tesla boss said he paid subscription fees for writer Stephen King and actor William Shatner. “Just Shatner, LeBrond and King,” Elon tweeted in response to reports of him paying subscription fees for a number of public figure accounts.
It is not known why Elon did this, but it is known that the three of them blatantly refused to pay for a Twitter Blue subscription fee. In fact, William Shatner had expressed his protest directly by mentioning Elon Musk.
Apart from these three figures, several other celebrities are also known to still have blue ticks on Twitter, such as Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, to Ellen DeGeneres. However, it is not known whether they actually subscribe to Twitter Blue or for some other reason.
