Vinicius Junior Gets Racist Treatment, Xavi: Shame!

– Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez also commented on the racist treatment that Valencia fans gave to Real Madrid striker, Vinicius Junior.

This racist abuse was received by the Brazilian player when Real Madrid defeated Valencia at the Mestalla, Sunday (21/5/2023). When asked about his opinion on the incident, Xavi asked that racism be eradicated.

“In general, unfortunately, there have been cases of racism, shameful. It’s a shame. It’s very sad and it’s a shame that it happened in 2023. We have to curse them, regardless of badge, player or club. We have to curse them, like Vinicius yesterday in Valencia, Valencia has done it. Racism must be eradicated once and for all,” said Xavi.

The Barcelona legend also suggested that the game should be stopped if there was a case of racism.

“The game has to stop. I always thought that. We are the only place where insults are accepted, this is the only sport where it is accepted. I was at work and they called me the son of so and so, can you imagine. I don’t see a baker or a journalist accepting this. If there is insult, then we stop playing. This is a message to the president of the League, the Federation.”

Xavi further called for an end to the culture of insulting opponents in matches in general.

“I don’t think I need to accept insults. Shame on a worker, they will throw bricks at your head. I don’t have to accept insults during my working hours and any kind of impudence. You have to say enough is enough,” he continued.

According to him, the root of this problem is education. According to him, those who practice racism in the field are uneducated people.

However, Xavi regretted Vinicius’ response on social media, saying that Spain and La Liga were racist.

“I don’t think it’s worth saying that Spain or Liga is racist, but there are racist acts. They have to be condemned. We are in an environment where we are insulted and things are said to us. We are asked to be role models, but it is difficult when they insults you all the time. It’s hard not to get angry, and it happened with Vinicius. With any player, you have to have a supportive environment,” he added.
