Winning by a landslide, the 2024 Thomas and Uber Cup teams must not be complacent

Chengdu, Beritasatu.com – The Indonesian Thomas and Uber team won 5-0 in the first match of the 2024 Thomas and Uber Cup, Saturday (27/4/2024). Even though they won by a landslide, the Uber Cup and Thomas Cup Indonesia teams should not be complacent.

Competing at the Hi Tech Zone Spots Center Gymnasium, Chengdu, China, Saturday (27/4/2024), the Indonesian Uber Cup team beat Hong Kong, while the Thomas Cup team beat England.

The team manager and Head of the Development and Achievement Division of the Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) Ricky Soebagdja emphasized that the team should not be complacent because tomorrow Monday (29/4/2024), both the Thomas team and the Uber team are waiting for the second match in the phase group.

The Thomas Indonesia team will face Thailand and the Uber team will face Uganda. “Today, because there is no match, the team is focused on training to sharpen their strength and improve what they still lack from the first match,” said Ricky.

Ricky emphasized that he and the coaching team will also see the readiness of the players to be deployed tomorrow.

Talking about the line-up of players who will play in the second group match of the 2024 Thomas Cup and Uber Cup, Ricky cannot confirm yet, but it is likely that he will give opportunities to team members who have not yet played.

“In the Uber team, on paper we are superior to Uganda, but we still can't be careless, we can't underestimate it because on the field anything can happen. For the team composition, it's possible that those who haven't played will be played,” said Ricky Soebagdja.

According to Ricky, Indonesia should not underestimate Thailand. Therefore, Indonesia must really calculate from all sides in determining the line-up.

“Especially looking at Thailand's performance last night, even though they lost 1-4 to India, they put up tough resistance. “You really have to watch out for this,” recalled Ricky.

On the same occasion, men's doubles coach Aryono also reminded his students not to be careless. The reason is, Thailand's Thomas Cup team did not compete with their best men's doubles but still has surprising potential.

“Indeed, Thailand's best men's doubles, Supak (Jomkoh)/(Kittinupong) Kedren, were not included, but those who have come now in terms of their game are quite good, especially the no-lob balls and their net play. The proof was that yesterday the Indian pair were forced to play three games by their first doubles “Fajar/Rian made trouble at the 2023 Asian Games, even beating Bagas/Fikri at the 2023 SEA Games,” he said.

Thailad's second doubles also had a tight game. “So we have to focus, we can't take it lightly,” concluded Aryono.
