Xabi Alonso dismisses rumors of leaving Bayer Leverkusen

Leverkusen, Beritasatu.com – Bayer Leverkusen coach, Xabi Alonso dismissed speculation that he would leave Liverpool and Bayern Munich. The name of this former Liverpool player emerged after it was reported that the two giant European clubs were interested.

“At the moment, it's just speculation. My mind is here. We have a lot to do. We are in a good situation. We have to enjoy it and continue to prepare and that's all I think about,” Alonso was quoted as saying The GuardianSaturday (24/2/2024).

Alonso is currently focused on Leverkusen, who are now firmly at the top of the Bundesliga standings. The 2-1 victory over Mainz, Saturday (24/2/2024) marked Leverkusen's unbeaten match in their 33rd match this season.

This score broke the record in the Bundesliga which was previously held by Hansi Flick's Bayern Munich in 2019-2020.

The victory over Mainz put Leverkusen three points ahead of second-place Bayern Munich. Leverkusen's lead was opened through Granit Xhaka's goal in the third minute. However, four minutes later Mainz equalized the score through Dominik Kohr's goal.

Leverkusen's victory was determined by Robert Andrich's long-range goal. “We were too emotional in the first half. We did OK, but not great. “The second goal was very important,” said Alonso.
