Cesc Fabregas Retires As a Footballer
– Cesc Fabregas, former Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea player announced his retirement as a footballer.
The 36-year-old player has had a 20-year career as a professional footballer. The announcement of retirement was made by the Spanish smoke man via his Twitter account.
“It is with great sadness that the time has come for me to hang up my boots,” said Fabregas on Saturday (1/7/2023).
As is well known, Fabregas started his career at the Barcelona academy before making his debut in the senior team in 2003. He then played in England with Arsenal and was trusted to become captain in 2008.
Unfortunately for eight years at Arsenal, he failed to win a trophy. Fabregas then returned to Barcelona in 2011 or one year after winning the World Cup with the Spanish national team.
At Barcelona, Fabregas won six trophies including LaLiga, the Copa del Rey and the Club World Cup.
After that he left for Chelsea in 2014 and had a quite successful career. He won four titles, including two Premier League trophies.
He also spent three seasons with Monaco (2019-2022) and most recently at Serie B club Como for one year before deciding to retire.
“From my first day at Barca, Arsenal, Barca again, Chelsea, Monaco and Como, I will cherish them all,” he said.
At the international level, Fabregas has won many titles. He is included in the golden generation of the Spanish national team which has won the World Cup (2010) and two European Cup titles (2008 and 2012). Fabregas admits that he will not forget his achievements at the international level.
“From lifting the World Cup, the Euros, to winning everything in England and Spain and almost every European trophy, it’s been a journey I will never forget,” he continued.
It is with great sadness that the time has come for me to hang up my playing boots.
From my first days at Barca, Arsenal, Barca again, Chelsea, Monaco and Como, I will treasure them all.
