Badminton AJC 2023: Bagas joins Alwi in the top 8, Bodhi stops

– Prahdiska Bagas Shujiwo’s men’s singles qualify for the quarter-finals of the BNI Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2023 tournament following his partner Alwi Farhan. But the host’s other men’s singles, Bodhi Ratana Teja Gotama, stopped.

In the match that was held at the Amongraga Sports Hall, Yogyakarta, Friday (14/7/2023), Bagas won two straight games against the representative of Taiwan, Ma Cheng-Yi with a score of 21-13, 21-7.

The athlete who was born in Pati, September 2, 2005, admitted that he had tried to adapt to the playing field. Luckily the adaptation was done quickly so that Bagas was able to win within 29 minutes.

“It feels good to win today’s match. In the first game I tried to adapt to the arena,” said Bagas.

“In this fight the opponent made a lot of unforced errors and gave me a lot of easy points,” said Bagas.

The victory made Bagas qualify for the quarterfinals and will challenge the Chinese representative, Wang Zi Jun.

In the previous match, Wang won against Yuna Nakagawa (Japan) with a score of 16-21, 21-12, 21-12.

“There is an advantage for me by getting a quick victory in this match. I try to play more prepared. Now I want recovery first to face the quarterfinals,” added Bagas.

With this result Bagas followed in the footsteps of Alwi Farhan’s men who qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Wongsup Wongsup-In from Thailand with a score of 21-9, 21-13.

Unfortunately, the success of Bagas and Alwi was unable to be followed by Bodhi Ratana Teja Gotama. Bodhi fell to his knees before the Chinese representative, Zhang Zhi Jie with a score of 16-21, 15-21.

Bodhi admitted that he was not able to anticipate the opponent’s game in front of the net.
