Coach Calls Fajar/Rian Finds Best Game despite Failing to Win in Korea Open

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Pelatnas PBSI men’s doubles coach, Aryono Miranat, considers that the performances of the pair Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto have returned to the peak of their best performance while competing at the 2023 Korea Open in Yeosu on July 18-23.

Aryono explained in detail that despite failing to become a champion, the world number one men’s doubles pair have now regained their confidence, so they are able to show their best abilities during the BWF Super 500 category tournament.

“If we look back, Fajar and Rian’s performances during the previous three tournaments were unsatisfactory, and their game looked unsatisfactory. However, at the Korea Open this time, I witnessed from start to final, that their game had started to recover to its best form, their confidence had also recovered, and they were able to show their maximum abilities,” said Aryono through an official statement from PP PBSI in Jakarta on Monday (24/7/2023).

Aryono as a whole gave his appreciation for the achievements of Fajar and Rian as runner-up Korea Open 2023. Even so, he stated that there were still some evaluations that needed to be done on Fajar and Rian’s performance after losing to the Indian men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty.

In the first game, Fajar/Rian was able to apply the strategy that had been prepared beforehand. However, in the next two games, they were trapped in the opponent’s playing patterns.

“What they did in the first game was implement a strategy that had been planned beforehand. However, in the next two games, when the Indian pair found their rhythm, Fajar and Rian lost their temper a bit,” explained Aryono.

As a result, Fajar and Rian often made unforced errors and lost a lot of points, especially in the second and third games. “They were in a hurry to score points, but ended up with a fatal mistake,” added Aryono.

Previously, Fajar stated that the Satwiksairaj and Chirag pair had a game pattern that was difficult to overcome because they relied on speed and power.

However, Fajar admits that the quality of his game with Rian has improved a lot compared to the last time they faced Satwiksairaj and Chirag in the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open in June.

“Compared to our last meeting, today we have played better. However, we still have to find a strategy to beat them by studying the videos of their matches,” said Fajar.
