Finally PSG sacks coach Christophe Galtier

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) finally sacked coach Christophe Galtier. This dismissal further strengthens the news of the entry of Luis Enrique as a replacement.

Galtier, the former Saint-Etienne, Lille and Nice coach, took over from Mauricio Pochettino last year and led PSG to Ligue 1 and Trophee des Champions titles.

However, Galtier could not end PSG’s slump in the Champions League. PSG were knocked out in the last 16 at the hands of Bayern Munich, and their side are just one point clear of Lens in Ligue 1.

PSG also confirmed the departure of his assistants, Thierry Oleksiak and Joao Sacramento.

“At the end of the 2022-2023 financial year, Paris Saint-Germain and Christophe Galtier have decided to terminate their first-team coaching contract. The Club wishes to pay tribute to his professionalism and commitment, which enabled Rouge & Bleu to win a historic eleventh French title as well as the Champions Trophy, PSG said in a statement.

“We thank Christophe Galtier, and his assistants Thierry Oleksiak and Joao Sacramento, for the professionalism and commitment shown throughout the season, and wish them all the best for the rest of their careers.”

Prior to this dismissal decision, Galtier received accusations of racism while managing Nice. Galtier reportedly complained about the number of black and Muslim players in his squad.

Galtier, who strongly denies the allegations, was detained with his son. If his son is acquitted of the charges, Galtier will face trial on December 15 on charges of psychological abuse and discrimination.

Galtier left PSG with a record of 34 wins, six draws and 10 losses from 50 games. He has been linked with the West Ham United job should the Irons decide to part ways with David Moyes.
