video calling service – Google pulls the plug on its Hangouts service in November, which allows users to chat and video call. They are referred to Google Chat, reports the tech giant.

People using the Hangouts mobile app will see a notification from Monday asking them to switch to Google Chat. Web users receive a similar notification, although the Hangouts webpage will continue to exist until “the end of the year”.

For most people, conversations are automatically transferred from Hangouts to Chat, Google says. To be on the safe side, users are advised to make a copy of their conversations. The tech giant has released a special feature for this.

The company has long wanted to get rid of Google Hangouts, which was released in 2013. In 2017, the tech giant began developing two separate communication services: Google Meet and Google Chat.
