Having Food Poisoning, Iga Swiatek Ready to Compete at Wimbledon 2023

– World number one Iga Swiatek feels fine and is ready to compete at Wimbledon 2023 which will start on Monday (3/7/2023). Swiatek previously had food poisoning which forced him to withdraw from his first grass court semifinal in Bad Homburg, Germany, last Friday (30/6/2023).

“I have to take care of myself. I hope to recover soon,” said Swiatek, as quoted by AFP on Sunday.

The 22-year-old, who has won four Grand Slam titles, is seeking her first Wimbledon title to add to her collection of US Open and French Open titles. However, she has never gone beyond the last 16 at a grass court grand slam tournament.

Swiatek’s presence is certainly a threat to Elena Rybakina, who managed to win Wimbledon in 2022 and is trying to defend her title.

Apart from Swiatek and Rybakina, competition in the women’s singles is also tight because there is still Aryna Sabalenka.

The world number two from Belarus also has ambitions to win the Wimbledon title this year. Last year, he was barred from participating in the tournament due to organizers’ policies regarding the conflict in Ukraine. Sabalenka has also been in the spotlight after capturing her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January.

Do not miss the name Ons Jabeur, ranked sixth in the world, who became runner-up in the last year and has already won the grasscourt title in Birmingham in 2021.

In addition, Venus Williams, who got wild card, is also a favorite this year. The 43-year-old tennis player has won five Wimbledon titles.

There is also sentimental hope for Petra Kvitova, Wimbledon champion in 2011 and 2014, who is the only player in the top 10 in the world rankings over 30 years of age.
