Junior Badminton Players Tested at the Pembangunan Jaya Raya Junior International Grand Prix 2023

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Veteran men’s doubles, Hendra Setiawan hopes that Indonesian junior badminton players can perform optimally at the Yonex Sunrise Pembangunan Jaya Raya Junior International Grand Prix 2023 badminton event.

This international scale tournament will take place on July 18-23 at GOR PB Jaya Raya Bintaro, South Tangerang with a total prize pool of US$25,000.

“This tournament can increase the flying hours and enthusiasm of young players to achieve optimally, especially the athletes fostered by PB Jaya Raya, of course,” said Hendra Setiawan, Monday (17/7/2023).

According to Hendra, international scale tournaments are important to increase the confidence and also the flying hours of the players.

“Hopefully, many Indonesian junior players can win here to increase their confidence to appear in even bigger tournaments,” added Hendra who is a PB Jaya Raya athlete.

Meanwhile, a former PB Jaya Raya men’s doubles badminton player, Tony Gunawan, assessed that the existence of an international tournament in Indonesia was very beneficial for local players to be able to compete with foreign players.

“They can compete with foreign players and at the same time feel the situation of competing in an international event,” said Tony, a gold medalist at the 2000 Sydney Olympics with his club partner, Candra Wijaya.

This world-class junior badminton tournament plays three categories namely U-15, U-17 and U-19. In total this tournament competed 14 numbers consisting of men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Especially for mixed doubles, only playing U-17 and U-19.

To date, 1,323 athletes have been registered from 16 countries such as India, Malaysia, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Myanmar, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Indonesian hosts.
