Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard officially coaches Saudi Arabian club Al Ettifaq

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard officially coaches Al Ettifaq club in Saudi Arabia. The English coach is contracted for two years until 2025.

Steven Gerrard, who defended Liverpool from 1998-2015, took over as coach after Patrice Carteon was sacked in February, and Antonio Cazorla acted as caretaker until the end of the 2022/2023 season.

Through an official club announcement, Al Ettifaq Club expressed its pleasure at signing with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

The contract signing ceremony was held at a hotel in London, England, Monday (3/7/2023) in the presence of President Al Ettifaq, Khaled Al-Dabal.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Steven Gerrard as coach of Al Ettifaq Club,” read a club announcement, Tuesday (4/7/2023).

He considered the presence of Gerrard, who is 43 years old, will improve the quality of the Saudi Arabian League and become a quantum leap after the arrival of the world’s top players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, N’Golo Kante, Karim Benzema and Kalidou Koulibaly.

In the 2022/2023 season, Al Ettifaq finished in seventh place with 37 points, 35 points different from the champion, Al Ittihad. They won 10 wins, seven draws and 13 losses.

Before coaching Al Ettifaq, Gerrard had coached Rangers and Aston Villa. With Rangers, he has successfully led the club to win the 2020/2021 season without losing, collecting 102 points from 32 wins and six draws.
