Man City vs Leeds, Guardiola Angry Gundogan Failed to Score a Penalty Goal

– Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola, expressed his anger at Ilkay Gundogan’s failure to score a goal from the penalty spot when beating Leeds United, 2-1, Saturday (6/5/2023), at the Etihad Stadium.

In the 84th minute, Gundogan had a golden opportunity to increase Man City’s lead to 3-0. But the Norwegian striker gave Gundogan a chance.

In his post-match press conference, Guardiola insisted the penalty should have been taken by Haaland. “The game isn’t over yet. That shows how good and generous Erling is. If it’s 4-0 with 10 minutes left, okay. But at 2-0? Erling is the best penalty taker right now so he’s got to take it. If Gundo manages to score from penalty, everyone will say ‘OK, hat-trick, well done’,” said Guardiola.

‌”But executors are executors. Erling is a specialist. At 2-0 it was business, not a situation we can’t get over. Before the last minute we played an excellent game but maybe we weren’t as clinical as we should have been.”

Guardiola also has to prepare for the FA Cup final, when his side face local rivals Manchester United at Wembley on June 3. Erik ten Hag’s team will be desperate to win to stop City from grabbing treble Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
