Tomorrow the SEA Games Football Competition Begins, Cambodia Installs LEDs in 7 Locations of the Capital City

The 2023 SEA Games football competition in Cambodia starts tomorrow, Saturday (29/4/2023). The two matches in Group A will be held at the National Olympic Stadium, with the Indonesian U-22 national team facing the Philippines, and hosts Cambodia against Timor Leste and.

Even though Cambodia has distributed free tickets to watch to tens of thousands of its citizens, it is believed that there are still many residents who also want to watch and have the potential to cause excessive crowds at the stadium.

To solve the problem, the Phnom Penh city government, following Prime Minister Hun Sen’s order, has installed LED screens at seven locations in the capital Phnom Penh for fans to watch the game.

San Makara (23), a longtime Cambodian football fan said he was thrilled that Cambodia could host the biggest event in the region. Most importantly, he said, the Cambodian football team was playing at home.

“Cambodia has faced Timor Leste several times. I think both teams are on the same level. However, I think playing at home might inspire them (Cambodia) to get good results,” said Makara.

“The team is in good form. So, I hope they can at least advance to the semi-finals. In my honest opinion, I don’t think we can win the gold medal because there are strong teams like Thailand and Vietnam.”

Vanna Heat, another fan, also has the same opinion regarding the current form of the Cambodian football team.

“I think Cambodia’s U-22 team has been steadily improving in recent years as they have shown promising performances in various competitions so far,” he said.

Even so, he said, the team must continue to work hard to compete at the highest level in the upcoming Olympics. Especially the mindset and spirit of winning for the country, not just for oneself.

“Everything is possible in sport. And I really hope that the Cambodian team goes as far as possible, especially to the final,” he said.

“I believe that they will get through the group stage, because they are not in the most competitive group, to be honest.”
