Railway lines in South Sumatra are sinking, passengers in Lampung return tickets

– Hundreds of train passengers in North Lampung, Lampung returned their tickets due to the cancellation of the train’s scheduled departure. The cancellation of the train departure schedule was the result of the collapse of the railway line between Gilas Station and Sepancar Station, South Sumatra.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI) for the Lampung and South Sumatra regions canceled scheduled train departures on Friday (28/4/2023).

The cancellation of train departures for Lampung-South Sumatra and vice versa is the impact of the subsidence of the railroad track due to land subsidence between Gilas Station-Sepancar Station, South Sumatra.

With the cancellation of the train departure, train passengers who were going home to Palembang, South Sumatra, canceled their homecoming. Hundreds of train passengers at Kotabumi Station, North Lampung also returned the train tickets they had purchased according to PT KAI’s notification.

A number of other passengers were seen lining up for refunds. Agus Laksono (25), one of the travelers who failed to go home, said he had to postpone going home to Palembang, South Sumatra because of the cancellation of the departure schedule.

“Yes, he failed to go home because there was a landslide,” said Agus Laksono.

Agus Laksono said, refunding the purchase of a ticket was enough to return the ticket and show the Identity Card (KTP).

“Already returned the ticket, the only way to return the ticket and show the KTP justthe refund is 100%,” said Agus Laksono.

Repair of the collapsed railway line between Gilas Station and Semancar Station, South Sumatra.

Head of Kotabumi Station, North Lampung, Bayu Prayitno, said the cancellation of the departure of the train to South Sumatra and vice versa was due to a disturbance on the railroad line at KM 206+0/2, which experienced a subsidence.

“The subsidence of this train line is because the area was hit by heavy rain,” said Bayu Prayito.

Bayu Prayitno explained that there were four canceled train trips, namely two trips for the Rajabasa Express Train from Tanjung Karang Station, Bandar Lampung, Lampung to Kertapati, South Sumatra, two trips.

Bayu Prayitno further said that his party ensures that prospective passengers can cancel tickets with a 100% refund excluding the booking fee.

“Prospective passengers who cancel their trips can get a 100% refund,” concluded Bayu Prayitno

At present the repair of the railway line which has collapsed at Kilometer 206+0/2 between Gilas Station and Sepancar Station has reached 50%. KAI Divre IV Tanjung Karang is currently making various efforts to restore train travel at that location.

Handling is carried out both in terms of railway operational arrangements and railroad track infrastructure. KAI also coordinates with related parties to speed up the repair process.
