Preparing to Celebrate the Scudetto, Napoli Supporters Asked to Avoid Mount Vesuvius

Napoli fans preparing to celebrate Scudetto or the club’s first Italian league title since 1990 have been asked to avoid Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that overlooks the southern city of Naples.

Park authorities have become concerned by reports that diehard Napoli fans plan to set off flares to light Vesuvius in Italy’s national colors if the club clinches the title on Sunday, deeming such an act dangerous.

“We are all happy for Napoli’s success which will bring honor to our region and great happiness to people,” said Vesuvius park commissioner Raffaele De Luca.

“But celebrations must remain within the bounds of civil conduct,” he added.

Vesuvius erupted in AD 79 when it destroyed the nearby Roman city of Pompeii, and it remains active today.
