Layza Rebeca , 27, was inspired by the Black Panther movie to do a photo shoot in Vargem Grande, in Rio de Janeiro. Parading through Mangueira for 14 years, the Rio de Janeiro Carnival muse is preparing to tell the samba-plot As Áfricas que Bahia Canta at Sapucaí . “I wanted to turn my body into a canvas. The details and representation of the painting were thought out with great care and affection. It took more than three hours of painting, with the support of three people attentive to details for the perfect delivery of the proposal, which was to represent an African warrior,” she explains.

How has the physical and food preparation been?
I prepare myself with bodybuilding and my aerobic training is sambar. In food, this period has been more regulated, so that I can maintain my ideal body.

You have a very natural beauty. What do you think of this wave of aesthetic procedures to get a negative belly, remove fat?
I think in a moderate way they are welcome. I’m a fan of aesthetic procedures without surgery, such as modeling massage, Russian current and others… Aligned with good nutrition and proper training, they are a perfect combination.

Do you feel that pressure to get on this wave?
I really like having a natural body, without cosmetic surgeries. I don’t rule out the possibility of one day joining this wave, but today I’m very satisfied with my body. I think having surgeries too early can reflect negatively later on.

You appeared with your body painted in the technical rehearsal. Is there a greater concern when you parade with your body painted with the physique or revealing too much?
The biggest concern is the unforeseen. In the case of painting, there is a risk of the codpiece falling off. In the case of the costume, it is to break or fall some prop. But whatever the unforeseen, a muse must always understand that the show must go on. I prepare myself psychologically for possible falls, a broken sandal or a coaster that falls. It is necessary to know how to deal with any and all unforeseen circumstances.

How do you deal with nudity?
I make my body a form of expression. I don’t see nudity as a problem or a barrier, I think that in art everything should be admired and contemplated.

Have you ever suffered harassment at Carnival?
Yes, I’ve suffered. I think everyone has suffered at least once, whether sexual or moral. In my case, unfortunately, I’ve suffered both.

What do you identify with this year’s samba-enredo?
I identify with the samba-enredo from start to finish! I am a black woman and warrior, who fights every day to be respected. The presence of spirituality in the lyrics also represents me. Anyway, it is a very strong samba and with a characteristic representativeness of Mangueira. We always take a social and cultural responsibility to the avenue. This is hose.
