Only Indonesia is the representative from Asia, this is the participant in the U-17 World Cup

– Indonesia is the only Asian representative who has confirmed that he will take part in the U-17 World Cup which is planned to be held in November-December 2023.

Indonesia was confirmed to have a ticket to appear in this age group championship after being appointed to host the U-17 World Cup by FIFA, Friday (23/6/2023) yesterday. This was disclosed by FIFA through their Twitter account. “Indonesia is confirmed to host the U-17 World Cup.” Once FIFA announced via Twitter.

The other representatives from Asia will only be determined after the U-17 Asian Cup which is taking place in Thailand between June 15 and July 2. Indonesia did not qualify for the event in Thailand because in the qualifying round it only sat in second place in Group A after Malaysia.

In the qualifying round 1-9 October 2022 at the Pakansari Stadium, Bogor, Indonesia actually performed brilliantly by defeating Guam 14-0, conquering the United Arab Emirates 3-2, and beating Palestine 2-0. But in the last game they gave up 1-5 to Malaysia. Indonesia was only in the runner-up position with 9 points lost to Malaysia which collected 10 points.

However, the appointment of Indonesia as the host made the Red and White team now entitled to appear in the final round of the U-17 World Cup. This event will be attended by 24 participants. Apart from Asian representatives, 19 other teams have confirmed themselves to appear.

The 19 participants who have confirmed themselves to appear in Indonesia on November 10-December 2 are: from Africa, namely Burkina Faso, Mali, Morocco, Senegal; from North and Central America namely Canada. Mexico, Panama and the United States; South America namely Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador and Venezuela; Oceania: New Caledonia and New Zealand; and Europe namely England, France, Germany, Poland and Spain.

Nigeria is the team that has won the U-17 World Cup the most times, namely five times in 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015. Brazil has won four times, namely in 1997, 1999, 2003 and 2019 as well as Ghana and Mexico respectively – each has twice.

Brazil became the defending champion of this event after winning in 2019 when the South American country hosted it.
