Rajamangala Stadium Flooded, Tottenham and Leicester Cancel Matches in Thailand
Liputan6.com, Jakarta- The pre-season trial match between two English clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City in Bangkok, Thailand had to be canceled on Sunday 23 July 2023. The match was canceled because the Rajamangala Stadium field was flooded after heavy rain.
The referee initially suspended the match for 45 minutes. However, after checking again, the Rajamangala Stadium field was still unusable for the Tottenham vs Leicester match because it was still flooded and the weather conditions were so bad.
“Event organizers, on the recommendation of the match officials, have deemed the pitch at the Rajamangala National Stadium unplayable and unsafe following heavy rains in Bangkok,” said a statement on Tottenham’s official website.
The players of both teams actually arrived at the stadium and had time to warm up. Unfortunately, the heavy rain that occurred before the kick-off flooded the Rajamangala Stadium field.
The cancellation of this match made James Maddison and Harry Winks cancel their reunion with their former clubs. Maddison has just been bought by Tottenham from Leicester. Meanwhile, Winks moved to Leicester.
Tottenham immediately went to Singapore after canceling the match in Bangkok, Thailand. On 26 July 2023, the Spurs are scheduled to play local club Lion City Sailors at the Singapore National Stadium in a pre-season game titled “Singapore Festival of Football”.
