Right Arm Injury, Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Monte Carlo Masters

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Spanish world number three Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the Monte Carlo Masters due to a right arm injury.

“I trained in Monte Carlo and tried to recover until the last minute from the pronator teres injury in my right arm, but it was impossible and I couldn't play,” said Alcaraz, Tuesday (9/4/2024).

“I'm really looking forward to playing. See you next year!” he added.

Alcaraz finds his best form on North American hard courts. He successfully defended his title at Indian Wells before being defeated by 2017 ATP Finals champion Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open.

The tennis player, who has a 15-4 record this season, appeared at practice in Monte Carlo with a wound on his right arm.

Italian Lorenzo Sonego will replace the 20-year-old in the main draw as lucky loser, and face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic started the Monte Carlo Masters by beating Roman Safiullin 6-1, 6-2, and reaching the third round for the 14th time.

Another Serbian tennis player, Miomir Kecmanovic, ended Matteo Berrettini's winning streak. Kecmanovic beat Marrakesh champion Berrettini 6-3, 6-1 to set up a third-round clash with Grigor Dimitrov.

American Sebastian Korda beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-1, 6-2 in the first round.

After rain delayed the match, world number 11 Alex de Minaur made up for lost time with a 62-minute straight-sets win over Stan Wawrinka.

Wawrinka, a 39-year-old wild card, who was previously ranked third in the world but has now dropped to 79th in the world, was unable to match de Minaur in the first round, winning 6-3, 6-0.
