SEA Games 2023: Agus Prayogo Wins Men’s Marathon Gold
Marathon athlete Agus Prayogo won the first gold medal from the 2023 SEA Games Cambodia athletics branch.
Agus Prayogo became the fastest in the marathon number at the World Heritage Site area, Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Saturday (6/5/2023).
This gold medal is the seventh for Agus Prayogo in the multi-event SEA Games.
“I am grateful to win gold again after only silver in Hanoi. This is for all Indonesian people,” said Agus Prayogo after securing victory.
The 38-year-old athlete said that from the start he tried to keep his distance and at kilometer 17 he started trying to escape.
“In the 17th kilometer I tried to escape and continued to hold on because based on experience in Hanoi I lost after being overtaken by a Vietnamese runner in the last five kilometers,” he said.
Even though he is 38 years old, Agus Prayogo can still survive for one or two more SEA Games.
“God willing, I can still be in 2 or 3 more years at the marathon. If the managers and coaches still trust me, I will always be ready for the sake of the country,” said Agus Prayogo.
