Strange Events at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia

– Various surprising and unusual incidents occurred at the biennial event, the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia. Indonesia even experienced it since the opening ceremony when the Meraih Putih flag was displayed upside down.

Other unusual events include the many “strange” sports that are unknown in Indonesia as well as in other countries. This sport is suspected of being contested in the SEA Games this time as a means for the hosts to gain medals.

Cambodia has indeed become the host of this multi-branch event which has been held since 1959.

Here are some strange and unusual events at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia:

1. The Indonesian Flag is Upside Down
This incident occurred during the opening ceremony of the 2023 Phnom Phen SEA Games, last Friday, May 5. In the opening at National Morodoc, Techno, happened when pre-show opening ceremony.

2. Unusual Sports
Cambodia as the host of the 2023 SEA Games certainly has the power to determine which sports are contested. Some of the unusual ones include Arnis, Kun Bokator, Teqball and Chinlone. This unusual sport was held allegedly as Cambodia’s attempt to gain medals so that it could come out as the overall champion.

3. Plastic chairs in the U-22 National Team locker room
It didn’t stop there, a unique incident occurred when Indonesia U-22 was preparing to compete against Timor Leste U-22. The chairs used in the locker room were seen using simple chairs made of plastic. If you search for matketplace in Indonesia, similar chairs can be found for less than IDR 50,000.

4. The Medal Ceremony uses Car Lights
When the Indonesian athletes in the 20 KM fast road number climbed to the podium to receive the gold medal, it was seen that the lighting was carried out using the help of car lights.

5. Indonesia Cannot Participate in Mixed Team Badminton
The decision that was classified as very surprising at the 2023 SEA Games was that Indonesia was prohibited from participating in the mixed team badminton event. The reason is very absurd. Cambodia decided that only less developed countries could participate in this number. These countries are Cambodia, Brunei, Laos, Timor Leste and Myanmar.

6. Leak in Indonesian Badminton Players Room
The room occupied by three Indonesian badminton athletes competing in the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia was leaked. According to the Indonesian Team Manager Eddy Prayitno, there was a leak in one room on the third floor. This greatly disturbed the three athletes occupying the room.
This leaking room occurred in three rooms occupied by Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi, Stephanie Widjaja, and Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari which had leaks due to heavy rains which hit Phnom Penh since Monday afternoon.
