Sudirman Cup 2023: Opposing China, Here’s the Indonesian Player Lineup

– Indonesia made a surprise in the line-up against China in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Sudirman Cup or Sudirman Cup which was held today, Friday (19/5/2023), at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Center, Suzhou, China.

In the first match in mixed doubles, Indonesia made a change by pairing Rinov Rivaldy with Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja. Even though Rinov is usually paired with Pitha Haningtyas Mentari and Gloria is usually a duet with Dejan Ferdinansyah.

Dejan/Gloria were fielded in the last preliminary Group B match, Thursday (18/5/2023), and lost. Indonesia ended the preliminary round with a 2-3 defeat.

Playing in the first match, Rinov/Gloria will face the world’s number one mixed doubles, Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong.

In the second match against China, Indonesia fielded men’s singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. Ginting who is currently ranked second in the world will be challenged by the men’s singles ranked 10th, Su Yu Qi. Even though he is ranked far above his opponent, Ginting has lost seven out of eight meetings against the Chinese athlete.

In the third match, the Red and White Team will field the women’s single, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung. This 10th ranked player was about to meet Chen Yu Fei. Gregoria has met the 4th ranked women’s singles eight times, and has lost six times.

In the fourth match, world number one men’s doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto will be challenged by Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang. Fajar/Rian have met the sixth ranked pair three times. As a result, Fajar/Rian won twice and lost once.

In the fifth or final match, Indonesia’s best women’s doubles, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti will challenge the world’s number one women’s doubles, Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan. Apriyani/Fadia, who are now in fourth place, have met Chen Jia five times. As a result, Apriyani/Fadia swallowed four defeats.

The last meeting of the two doubles took place at the 2023 Malaysia Open. At that time Apriyani / Fadia could not continue the match due to injury.

The match between Indonesia and China will be held at Field 1 of the Suzhou Olympic Sports Center, starting at 17.00 local time or 16.00 WIB.

In the other quarter-finals, Taiwan will face South Korea, Thailand will face Japan, while Denmark will face Malaysia.
