Terror suspects – Three terror suspects received prison sentences of up to 16.5 years on tuesday in appeal. The trio, together with three others, prepared a bloody attack on a random LGBTIQ+ festival in the Netherlands. The police were able to prevent the attack in September 2018 early by an undercover operation.

The highest sentence was handed out by the Court of Appeal in The Hague to Waïl el A. (24) from Rotterdam. He was sentenced to 16.5 years in prison for planning an attack and membership of a terrorist organization.

In addition, El A. was found guilty of shooting at officers, even if it was with a weapon that had been deactivated by the policemen. Against El A. was by the Public Prosecution Service (OM) twenty years in prison demanded.

Co-defendant Shevan A. (33) from Arnhem was sentenced by the Court of Appeal to five years and ten months in prison. The Public Prosecution Service had asked for eight years in prison. Morat M. (25) from Vlaardingen was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison instead of the demanded thirteen years.


The District Court of Rotterdam sentenced the trio, together with three others, to prison sentences of ten to seventeen years in 2020. Three perpetrators, including main suspect Hardi N., resigned themselves to their punishment.

The three others appealed, but were sentenced again on Tuesday.
