ANOC Disappointed Indonesia Canceled Bali World Beach Games 2023: Last Week Was Still Fine

The Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) announced this decision via its Instagram account, Tuesday night (4/7/2023). In the upload, ANOC said that the cancellation came from the local committee (LOC) following the non-decreasing budget needed to organize the event.

This sudden decision left ANOC with no choice but to cancel the 2023 World Beach Games. Meanwhile, the ANOC General Assembly, which was planned to take place in Bali on the sidelines of the World Beach Games, was also canceled and will be rescheduled in the near future.

“ANOC is very disappointed with the actions of the LOC (Indonesian Olympic Committee) which has prevented athletes from 100 NOCs who have qualified from fulfilling their ambitions to compete in the Olympics,” ANOC wrote in its official statement.

“ANOC sincerely apologizes to the NOC, the athletes, and the International Federation (IF) who have been partners and committed to the event, and to the fans around the world,” ANOC added.

ANOC was also surprised by this cancellation. Because so far, his party admits that they have always received positive input from the organizers of the LOC even though there are a number of challenges that must be faced.

“ANOC and LOC met for weekly coordination meetings, as recently as last week, and LOC showed absolutely no problems that would lead to an outcome like this,” ANOC wrote.
