With the new format introduced in Baku, drivers will undertake one more qualifying session on Saturday to determine starting positions for the 100km sprint race, where the finish will now have no effect on position. grids main race on Sunday.

Today’s qualifying session was temporarily suspended due to a number of accidents such as when Alpine racer Pierre Gasly and AlphaTauri racer Nyck de Vries crashed into Turn 3 at different times. Both incidents caused red flags to be raised.

Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur believes there is still room to improve on the SF-23’s performance following two DNFs flanking a Q7 finish in Jeddah that led Leclerc to call “the worst start to a season.”

Ferrari have not tasted the top step of the podium at Baku since the circuit debuted on the F1 calendar in 2016. The Italian team, however, have only managed three podiums marred by a double DNF last year.
