The name Nicolas Jackson who scored Chelsea’s fourth goal is foreign. So who exactly is the 22-year-old player?

Nicolas Jackson, who was born on June 19, 2001, was actually born in Banjul, Gambia. However, he later chose to represent Senegal.

Born in Banjul and of Senegalese descent, Jackson moved to Ziguinchor, Senegal at the age of 16. He started playing for local team ASC Tilene before joining Casa Sports.

Jackson agreed a contract with Spanish La Liga side Villarreal in September 2019. However, he initially only represented the club’s youth team Juvenil A.

On October 5, 2020, Jackson was loaned out to Segunda Division team Mirandes for the 2020–21 season. He made his professional debut 13 days later. Came on as a second half substitute for Antonio Caballero in the 0-0 draw at home to Mallorca.

Jackson scored his first professional goal on November 28, 2020, when he scored the opener in a 1-1 draw against CD Castellón. It was the only goal of the 2020-21 season, as Mirandes finished in 10th place.

Returning from Mirandes, Jackson played for Villarreal’s B-team in the Primera División RFEF, scoring seven goals as the team earned promotion to the second division. He made his first team–and La Liga–debut on 3 October 2021, replacing Arnaut Danjuma at the end of a 2-0 home win over Real Betis.

In January 2023, Villarreal agreed a £22.5 million deal with AFC Bournemouth for the signing of Jackson. However, this move failed to occur because in a medical examination, Jackson was found to be having problems hamstrings. After returning to action in March, he scored nine goals in April and May, including braces against Celta de Vigo, Athletic Bilbao and Cádiz.

Sharpness makes Chelsea interested. The London club finally signed him officially on 30 June 2023. The player, who has defended the Senegal national team in three matches, signed a contract with Premier League club Chelsea on an eight-year contract until 2031.
