Drakor Parasyte: The Gray Shows Su In as the Main Character, This is the Difference from Shinichi in the Manga Version

Liputan6.com, Jakarta Drama Parasyte: The Grey which started broadcasting today, Friday (5/4/2024), not only attracted the attention of Ginseng Country cinema fans. The reason is, this Netflix drama is based on the famous manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki entitled Kiseiju or Parasyte.

The original manga, published by Kodansha, has sold more than 25 million copies in 30 territories and was adapted in animated form to live action.

However, Parasyte: The Grey does not feature original characters that fans are familiar with. On the other hand, this drama tells a new story and characters—but it's still deep universe which is the same as the original story by Hitoshi Iwaaki.

“In this series, the story is expanded on what would happen if the parasite that landed in Japan in 2017 in the manga, appeared in Korea,” said the director Parasyte: The Grey, Yeon Sang Ho, in a written statement received by Netflix Liputan6.com.

The main character of this drama is Su In (Jeon So Nee), a minimarket employee whose body is about to be taken by parasites, shortly before her death. However, the parasite named Heidi failed to control her body, and Su In had to live with her—not clearly as a parasite, or as a human.

Yeon Sang Ho said there was a difference between Su In and Shinichi—a character in the original manga who lived with parasites in his body.

“The main character of the manga, Shinichi, lives side by side with Migi in his right arm, they struggle and grow together. Su In also coexists with parasites but in a different way from Shinichi,” said the director.
