Eliminated in the Italian Cup Semifinals, Allegri Calls Juventus Asleep

– Juventus coach, Massimiliano Allegri, said his team fell asleep in the first 15 minutes of the match against Inter when they were eliminated in the Italian Cup semifinals, Thursday (27/4/2023) early morning WIB.

Juventus lost 0-1 in the Italian Cup semi-final second leg at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Bianconeri were eliminated with a 1-2 aggregate defeat so they had to forget their dream of lifting the Coppa Italia trophy. The only goal in this match was scored by Federico Di Marco’s 15th.

Allegri said that Juventus fell asleep in 15 minutes of the match against Simone Inzaghi’s team so they conceded a goal. “The sensation was that in the first half, especially the first 15 minutes, we fell asleep,” Allegri told Juventus’ official website.

The coach who once handled AC Milan revealed that his team had played better since conceding a goal. However, the lack of shots on target and the physical strength factor of the opposing team prevented his team from equalizing or even turning things around.

“We played better from behind, but we didn’t have enough shots on goal and Inter are a very physical team,” said the former AC Milan coach.

Despite playing badly at the start of the half, Allegri said his team played pretty well throughout the 90 minutes of the game.

Juventus recorded more control of the match with 59 percent ball possession and shot six kicks, three of which were towards the Inter goal guarded by Andre Onana.

“Overall it was a good game,” said Allegri.

As a coach, Allegri admitted that he was disappointed not to be able to lead his troops to reach the Italian Cup final this season. But he asked his team not to let their guard down and stay strong to face the rest of the matches this season.

“Right now we are disappointed that we didn’t qualify for the final, but we have to be strong and carry on with the season,” said Allegri.
