Former Head of OpenSea NFT Platform Product Will Be Tried, Money Laundering Allegations

A few months after launching its Web3 community platform, called Swoosh, footwear giant Nike will be launching its first NFT collection there.

The collection, titled Our Force 1 (OF1), will consist of the NFT virtual sneaker Polygon designed to pay homage to the iconic Nike Air Force 1 sneaker from 41 years ago.

Two types will be available as part of the release of the Remix Classic sneaker box, which contains a virtual kick riff on the Air Force 1 shoe released between 1982 and 2006, and the New Wave box, which features pairs designed in 2007 and later.

Scattered among the Classic Remix boxes will be a number of more unique and customized AF1s featuring a “nostalgic touch”. Similarly mixed in with the New Wave box will be the special and expressive AF1 with a “futuristic touch”.

All virtual sneaker boxes will cost USD 19.82 or the equivalent of IDR 294,972 (assuming exchange rate of IDR 14,884 per US dollar) referring to the year Air Force 1 debuted. Nike will not accept payments for NFTs in cryptocurrency.

By Nike count, there are currently more than 330,000 Swoosh members. Anyone can join this platform, free of charge. Details about the pairs of virtual shoes that virtual shoe holders will receive appear to be deliberately vague.

In February, Nike announced that four virtual shoe designs dreamed up by Swoosh members had been selected to feature at OF1’s launch.

Since then, Nike designers have worked with members of that community to bring designs to life on the blockchain. These fan-made designs will also be scattered randomly between the two types of boxes.
