Brazilian football star Neymar is facing a fine of around $1 million or around Rp.14.9 billion after carrying out extensive home renovations without the permission of the authorities.

It is reported that a major construction project at the home of Brazilian football star Neymar in the state of Rio de Janeiro was halted on Thursday due to “environmental violations.” The project is underway without an environmental permit at the luxury property owned by the Paris Saint-Germain player and the Brazilian national team player in Mangaratiba. , about 130 kilometers (80 miles) from Rio de Janeiro.

The massive renovation sparked complaints from various parties that were conveyed on social media. In response to this, the authorities immediately responded and found various environmental violations, including diverting waterways, and taking water without permission from rivers.

They also uncovered unauthorized excavation and removal of soil, rocks and stones, as well as the unauthorized use of beach sand.

“The next step is to carry out an assessment of the irregularities found and issue a fine which, according to estimates and given the environmental damage caused, will not be less than five million reais (about $1 million),” the mayor’s office said.

The footballer’s father, Neymar da Silva Santos, was at the location during the inspection. He was seen arguing with officers in a video published by the authorities and broadcast by local media.

Neymar purchased the property in 2016. According to local media, the property sits on 10,000 square meters (2.5 hectares) of land and is equipped with a helipad, spa and fitness centre.

The 31-year-old striker is currently recovering after undergoing surgery on his right ankle. He has not played since February, and there are doubts whether he will stay at PSG.
