Korea Open 2023: Leo/Daniel Meet Taiwanese Doubles, Fikri/Bagas are challenged by a Korean pair

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Indonesian men’s doubles, Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin, will meet the Taiwanese doubles who have beaten them twice, Lu Ching Yao/Yang Po Han, in the last 32 of the Korea Open, Tuesday (18/7/2023), at Jinnam Stadium , Yeosu, South Korea.

Three Indonesian representatives will start their action on the first day of this Super 500 class tournament. The three Red and White representatives who will appear on the first day are all in the men’s doubles. The three couples are Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin, Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana, and Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan.

Leo/Daniel will meet the Taiwan doubles who are also ranked 15th in the world, Lu Ching Yao/Yang Po Han. Leo/Daniel, who are now in the 10th position in the world, have met Lu/Yang twice and always lost.

The first meeting of the two doubles took place at the French Open, last October 2021. At that time Leo/Daniel gave up 22-24, 17-21. They met again a month later at the Indonesia Open. At that time Leo/Daniel also gave up 18-21, 23-25.

Another Indonesian men’s doubles, Fikri/Bagas will meet Jin Yong/Na Sung Seung from South Korea. Fikri/Bagas have met couples who have passed these qualifications and always win.

The first meeting took place at the Korea Open last year. At that time Fikri/Bagas, who are now ranked 14th in the world, won 22-10, 21-18.

Their second meeting took place at the Indonesia Masters, last January 24. At that time Fikri/Bagas also won over the 39th ranked doubles in a rubber game, 21-10, 14-21, and 21-19.

Another Indonesian representative, Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan, will meet the Danish pair, Jeppe Bay/Lasse Molhede. Pramudya, who is now ranked 25th in the world, has never met Bay/Molhede.

While the world number one doubles from Indonesia, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, will only compete on Wednesday (19/7/2023). Fajar/Rian will face the pair that passed the qualifying round.

Fajar/Rian is targeting to win the 2023 Korea Open which will be held from 18-23 July at the Jinnam Stadium, Yeosu. This BWF Super 500 level tournament competes for a total prize pool of US$ 420,000.

In last year’s tournament, Fajar/Rian finished as runners up. For this reason, it is only natural that they target to win this year. “Me and Rian hope to exceed last year’s achievements where we were able to come out as runner up. It’s not easy but God willing, we will give our best step by step,” said Dawn.

They admit that they have prepared well for this tournament. Fajar/Rian hopes that their poor performance in the last three tournaments can be corrected.

Fajar/Rian revealed that they had evaluated the results that were not optimal at the Malaysia Masters, Singapore Open and Indonesia Open.

“After more than three weeks of match breaks, we focused on improving our physical endurance. In addition, we strengthened our mentality to compete because of the less than optimal results in the last three tournaments. We are determined to play even better,” he said.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Chinese Taipei Open men’s singles champion, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, admitted that he is ready to fight against the Korea Open.

“Certainly winning in Taipei will give me more confidence to appear at the Korea Open this time. I want to return to my maximum performance. My preparation has been good in terms of strategy and conditions,” concluded Chico.

The first match of the top 32 matches on each field will start at 10.00 local time or 08.00 WIB.
