Liverpool Get Szoboszlai, This is Klopp’s Comment

– Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp has revealed he is very pleased with the arrival of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig as his team’s second signing, after Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion.

The official announcement of Szoboszlai’s arrival at Liverpool was made, Sunday (2/7/2023). The Hungarian player has a five-year tie until 2028.

“I would like to warmly welcome Dominik to Liverpool. I know how excited he is to join us and we are all very excited to have him in our team,” Klopp said via the club’s official website based at the Anfield Stadium.

Klopp revealed that he had known Szoboszlai’s abilities since the player was against his team. At that time, while still defending RB Salzburg, Szoboszlai was in the spotlight after Liverpool suffered two defeats in the 2019/2020 Champions League group stage, namely in October 2019 losing 3-4, and in December 2019 losing 0-2.

“We had known Dominik a bit when he was playing for Red Bull Salzburg, and in that time he had shown his potential as an interesting player,” said Klopp.

The German coach also admits that since then, he has been very impressed with the development of the 22-year-old, who has shown great form with Leipzig and the Hungarian national team.

Szoboszlai has made 91 appearances for Leipzig scoring 20 goals and providing 22 assistsand won two DFB-Pokal trophies (2021/2022, 2022/2023) as reported by Transfermarkt.

On the international stage, he has also represented the Hungarian national team in 32 matches, scoring seven goals and providing two assists.

“I believe at the time, he was very young, but since then he has made significant progress, done well in the Bundesliga and even captained the Hungarian national team,” said Klopp.

With Szoboszlai’s arrival, Liverpool have the answer to a renewed midfield after the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

As an attacking midfielder, Szoboszlai chose jersey number 8 with The Redsthe iconic number once worn by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, and previously by Keita who has joined Werder Bremen.
