Never Winning, Lampard Enjoying His Position at Chelsea

Interim Chelsea manager Frank Lampard insists he is still happy at Chelsea and is relishing the challenge of changing the fortunes of his team. It is known, Lampard has never won even though he has gone through five matches as caretaker of Chelsea.

The Blues appointed Lampard to replace Graham Potter who was sacked in early April. Still unable to win, Chelsea were booed in the first half when they lost 2-0 at home last week to Brentford.

Chelsea is now winless in eight consecutive matches in all competitions, and is mired in 12th place in the 2022/2023 Premier League standings. They will face their city rivals Arsenal on Tuesday (2/5/2023) or early Wednesday WIB.

Even though he admits he feels pressure, Lampard admits that he is still happy to work at the club that made his name as a player.

“Of course. My eyes were opened when I came to this job. I was too experienced in football as a player and now as a coach. Things don’t always change overnight, and we have seen that,” Lampard told his pre-match press conference.

“Our job is to work on the performance and mentality of the team in training, to try and get back in shape. It only comes with hard work. I enjoy the challenge and I know that very well,” he added.

Lampard admitted that he was proud to get a second chance to coach Chelsea. Previously, he was Chelsea manager in the 2019/2020 to 2020/2021 season, before being replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

“I am very proud to manage the club. I love being here and I enjoy doing my job. The reality in football is that your career is not always full of success. People will always remember successes, but part of the job is the more successful moments. difficult, whether you are a manager or a player.”

Facing Arsenal, Lampard was able to field Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who started appearing from the bench against Brentford, as well as Kai Havertz who is recovering from injury.
