– The Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is currently in the spotlight, especially the JIS grass issue which is considered not to meet FIFA standards. In response to this, said the agronomist, Qamal Mustaqin, who is also monitoring the condition of JIS with PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono and DKI Acting Governor Heru Budi, last Tuesday, July 4.

According to Qamal Mustaqin, the type of natural JIS grass actually matches the type of tropical grass issued by FIFA, namely Zoysia. However, he did not deny that some improvements were needed for the grass to grow properly.

“Only the media that was found was too shallow between the synthetic carpet and the natural one, so it was difficult for it to grow normally plus the sun for growth was not enough,” he said to Beritasatu.comSaturday (8/7/2023).

“The need for renovation if the grass has to grow is not because it is not suitable. It needs to be renovated with media and additional sunlight, this might be more understandable to the public,” he added.

As one of the JIS grass processing experts who had worked for FIFA at the U-20 World Cup, Qamal explained that there were two things that needed to be improved, namely the planting medium and the addition of sunlight.

“Renovation of the media means dismantling the layers of grass and synthetic carpet so that the roots can grow more. Adding sun to enter or adding a full half-pitch growlight is minimal for the long term,” he added.

for installation growlight he himself stated that he had to bring in experts in his field first. So that the installation and provision of light for the growth of the grass is correct.

“Because I only know that this type of grass needs exposure to sunlight for at least 8 hours a day and if not, growth problems will arise,” he explained.
