Regarding the rumors about Indonesia vs South Korea, this is Erick Thohir’s answer

The general chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir, denied rumors that the Indonesian national team would face South Korea (South Korea) and Malaysia in the September 2023 FIFA Matchday match.

For South Korea, Erick said that it was impossible to invite the Ginseng Country team to compete against Indonesia this year. The reason is, South Korea already has a schedule for one year.

“If you want to talk to a team like Korea, it’s impossible, they already have a year’s calendar,” said Erick in Jakarta, Friday (23/6/2023).

Erick said that what needs to be considered in FIFA Matchday is to look for points. Therefore, PSSI must be observant in choosing opponents. Meanwhile, against a world-class team like Argentina some time ago, Erick said that it would be scheduled once a year.

“Already that’s it if it’s against Korea against Japan, when will you get the points. We also have a duty, from ranking 149th, 100th in the next few years,” said Erick Thohir.

Talking about against Malaysia, Erick Thohir admitted that he was very open. However, PSSI does not yet have an agreement with the Malaysian Football Federation (FAM). The team nicknamed Harimau Malaya also has an agenda for September.

“Malaysia? Wow I am very open to playing against Malaysia, when will it be? But, they also have a match in China. If I’m not mistaken, the invitation was on the 9th. So this is why FIFA Matchday is now, I, Mr. No Can. The world has changed in football. Everything has a point count,” Erick explained.

PSSI chairman Erick Thohir gave directions to Indonesian national team players during a training session at the Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta, Sunday (18/6/2023). The training was held as preparation for the Indonesia vs Argentina match on Monday, 19 June 2023.

The SOE Minister also revealed that September’s FIFA Matchday was close to the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup Qualification schedule in Solo, Central Java.

Therefore, PSSI is currently arranging a strategy for the national team match schedule in September. Moreover, many U23 players are also included in the senior national team squad.
