Regarding the Wildcard for Bautista in MotoGP, this is what Ducati said
– The Ducati factory racing team provides feedback on possible status wild card for their World Superbike (WSBK) racer, Alvaro Bautista, in the MotoGP race.
This relates to Bautista’s involvement as a test racer for Ducati motorbikes in the MotoGP class, recently at the Misano Circuit, Italy.
“Everything depends on how Bautista feels about the bike and the engine. However, keep in mind that Bautista’s main aim and focus at the moment is WSBK, to maintain his top position. However, no one knows how it will turn out yet. At the end of the WSBK championship, if there is time, we’ll see,” said Technical Coordinator for Ducati Corse, Marco Zambenedetti, quoted from the official WSBK statement, Thursday (11/6/2023).
Agreeing with that, Ducati Corse General Manager, Gigi Dall’Igna, added that it was too early to decide whether Bautista could join Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini as Ducati representatives through status wild card.
“It’s too early to know. The season is very long, and we will probably arrive at the end feeling very tired. However, we will see, because this is not our main target at the moment,” said Dall’Igna.
“For sure, I think he can do well with the bike, but to be honest, I don’t want to think about it too much. I just want to see him smile when he gets off the bike, that’s all,” he added.
On the other hand, Team Manager for Ducati Aruba. It Racing, Serafino Foti, also spoke about the potential wild card. Although his main focus is defending the WSBK title, Foti said that the potential could happen if the driver’s approval was obtained.
“Of course, I want to do (wild card) if Alvaro agrees. That’s the most important. Once the WSBK season is over, let’s see if we can find a good solution to gain wild card,” Foti said.
Meanwhile, Bautista was also asked about the possibility wild card and he admits that he isn’t thinking about it much at the moment, and is only focusing on competing in WSBK.
“Currently, there are no plans for me to commit wild card. I’m just doing a test run. Now we have to focus on the next three rounds because they are very close, and we have to concentrate on that,” said the reigning WSBK champion.
“We’ll see. I don’t know if Ducati will ask me to test again or not, but at the moment there are no plans yet… At the moment, I’m not thinking about wild card,” he added.
