SEA Games Medal Standings: Thailand Leads, Indonesia Slumps Again

– Thailand rose to the top to replace hosts Cambodia, while Indonesia’s position has declined again and is only in fifth place in the 2023 SEA Games medal standings, until Tuesday (9/5/2023) evening.

Indonesia only managed to add three gold medals on the fourth day of the Southeast Asian nations’ sports week. The three gold medals were won from tennis, vovinam, and soft tennis.

The Red and White team won gold from tennis after the women’s team number tennis team beat the Thai team 2-1 in the final round. Gold was also won by the Indonesian Vovinam team in the Women’s Doubles Knife Form category which was strengthened by Putu Wahana Maha Yoni and Ni Made Purnami.

The men’s team soft tennis team also won the gold medal after defeating Thailand 2-1 in the final.

This medal achievement has not been able to lift Indonesia’s position in the medal standings. Indonesia even slipped one position from the previous day. The Red and White contingent is now in fifth position after the Philippines.

With the same gold medal, namely 25, Indonesia was left behind in winning the silver medal. With a collection of 22 silver and 52 bronze, Indonesia lost to the Philippines which won 39 silver and 42 bronze.

Thailand displaces Cambodia and sits in first place with 40 gold, 30 silver and 45 bronze. Cambodia is also overtaken by Vietnam which has collected 39 gold, 39 silver and 46 bronze.

Cambodia itself is now only able to be in third place with 39 gold, 39 silver and 39 bronze.
