Sports Branch Needs Refreshment with Promotion and Relegation

– The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo assessed that in order to advance sports (sports) it is necessary to have a system of promotion and degradation.

According to the Menpora, this system is stipulated in the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) concerning the Grand Design of National Sports (DBON) Number 86 of 2021 which must be implemented and implemented properly.

This was conveyed by Menpora Dito when opening the Congress of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) at the Ballroom of the Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, Friday (30/6/2023). According to him, DBON is a good product to advance Indonesian sports.

“We, from the Ministry of Youth and Sport, totally agree that there should be refreshment regarding the promotion of relegation as well rewards And punishment. In the future, Kemenpora together with KONI and KOI will formulate how this DBON which is already good can run even better with the degradation and promotion system,” he said.

Menpora Dito said, the government, in this case Kemenpora, really supports all sports branches to excel on the world stage. Because this step is considered very appropriate to increase the achievements of Indonesian athletes towards world championships.

“We are doing all this to advance Indonesian sports even better, especially athletes so they can take part on the world stage. The government itself is very supportive of sports that want to hold a world championship, such as volleyball which will propose Indonesia to host the world championships in 2025 later, ” he said.

“Let’s work together, let’s make Indonesia an icon in an Asia-Pacific country friendly to sports. We have one passion to bring Indonesian sports forward again. The government will open the door for Indonesian sports 24 hours a day,” said Menpora Dito.

Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI/NOC Indonesia) Raja Sapta Oktohari at the opening of the KOI Congress stated that as many as 36 national federations participated in the 2023 SEA Games Cambodia, only 36 percent of which were sports that were included in the DBON.

Meanwhile, 40 percent of non-DBON sports made history, 34 percent of non-DBON sports made new records, and 25 percent of non-DBON sports came out as overall champions at the biggest sporting event in the Southeast Asian region.
