Surprise, Rizky Juniansyah Wins 2024 Olympic Ticket After Eliminating Rahmat Erwin

Liputan6.com, Jakarta- Indonesian lifter Rizky Juniansyah made a surprise at the 2024 Weightlifting World Cup or IWF World Cup which took place in Phuket, Thailand, Thursday (4/4/2024) evening. Rizky was able to win 2 gold medals and 1 silver in the 73 kg class, thus winning a ticket to compete in the 2024 Olympics.

This success is quite surprising. Rizku was able to get rid of another Indonesian weightlifter, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah, who was actually the favorite to qualify for Paris. Rahmat Erwin Abdullah had to be satisfied with winning 1 silver and 2 bronze in the selection event for the world's grand quadrennial sporting event.

Rizky, who was not the favorite, won 2 gold medals from the 203kg Clean and Jerk Force and a total of 365kg and 1 silver from the 164kg Snatch Force. Chinese lifter Shi Ziyong won the gold medal with a Snatch lift of 165kg and a silver medal with a total lift of 356kg, while the Clean and Jerk lift of 196kg only ranked fifth.

Meanwhile, Rahmat Erwin Abdullah only won 1 silver from the 206kg Clean and Jerk and 2 bronzes from the 16kg Snatch and a total of 355kg.

Unfortunately, Indonesia could not qualify two lifters at once even though Rizky and Rahmat were successful. According to the rules in each class there can only be one representative per country.

“Rizky Juniansyah is almost certain to win a ticket to the 2024 Olympics because according to the rules he is the best in the 2024 IWF World Cup. Unfortunately, the IWF rules only allow 1 athlete per country to appear in each class. “Rizky and Rahmat are the pearls of Indonesian weightlifting and have the opportunity to present gold and silver medals at the 2024 Olympics,” said Head of the Performance Development Division of the All Indonesian Weightlifting Association (PB PABSI), Hadi Wihardja to reporters.
