Swearing at Referee, Mourinho Banned from Accompanying AS Roma Four Matches

– AS Roma coach, Jose Mourinho received a penalty from UEFA in the form of a ban from accompanying his team in four matches after using harsh words to British referee Anthony Taylor. This was done by Mourinho after Roma were defeated by Sevilla in the Europa League final.

Even Mourinho was caught on camera slapping Taylor in the Puskas Arena Budapest parking lot. The Portuguese coach called the Premier League official a disgrace after Roma lost on penalties.

Mourinho blamed Taylor for his team’s defeat. Mourinho’s anger then triggered the less commendable action of the Roma fans towards the English referee when he arrived at Budapest airport to fly home from the match.

Taylor had reported on Mourinho during the final, which ended 1-1 after extra time and Sevilla won 4-1 on penalties.

With the suspension, Mourinho will miss four of Roma’s six group stage matches in next season’s Europa League, or the next four UEFA club competition games he should be involved in.

Meanwhile West Ham were fined €50,000 and their fans banned from their away games in next season’s Europa League. This followed crowd problems in the Conference League final win against Fiorentina.

The opposing player, Cristiano Biraghi, was bleeding after being hit by an object thrown by West Ham supporters. As a result, the match had to be temporarily suspended. West Ham won the final 1-0 thanks to Jarrod Bowen’s winner and will play in the Europa League next season.
