The 2023 Lebaran Homecoming Accident Number in East Java Increases by 41 Cases

The number of traffic accidents in East Java (East Java) during the mudik flow has so far increased by 41 cases compared to last year. Even so, the accident fatality rate has decreased by 30 percent.

East Java Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Akhmad Yusep said there had been an increase in the number of accidents during the Eid homecoming security period, compared to last year.

“There have been 41 cases of accidents during the 2023 Ketupat Semeru Operation. The reason is that up to now there have been 451 accidents, whereas last year there were 410 accidents,” explained East Java deputy police chief, Brigadier General Akhmad Yusep Gunawan, Thursday (27/4) /2023).

However, the accident fatality rate has decreased. Last year there were 35 cases, while this year there were only 21 cases or a decrease of around 30 percent.

Even so, the Deputy Chief of Regional Police of East Java appealed to people who are traveling back and forth, to rest when their bodies are tired. The reason is many accidents that occur due to factors human error.

“Based on preliminary data, up to now there have been more than 297,000 vehicles entering East Java, either through the Port of Tanjung Perak, Ketapang, Arterial Roads or toll roads,” concluded Akhmad Yusep Gunawan.
