Thom Haye's Debut with the Indonesian National Team Satisfies Shin Tae-yong

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Indonesian National Team Coach Shin Tae-yong (STY) was very satisfied to see Thom Haye's debut appearance when he starred in Garuda's 3-0 victory over Vietnam in the second round of qualifying for Group F for the 2026 World Cup in the Asian zone at My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi, Tuesday (26/3 /2024).

The Indonesian National Team's three winning goals in that match were scored by Jay Idzes (9th minute), Ragnar Oratmangoen (22), and Ramadhan Sananta (90+8).

In the 2026 World Cup qualifying match, in a duet with Marselino Ferdinan in midfield, Thom replaced the role previously played by Ivar Jenner who was absent due to not being fit.

Appearing for 90 minutes in that match, the player belonging to Dutch League club SC Heerenveen immediately suited Garuda's game.

He provided an important assist from a corner kick which Jay Idzes turned into a goal in the ninth minute.

“You know Ivar Jenner's condition is not good because he is sick. So, Thom replaced him in midfield. He did his job well,” said STY.

With his trademark short sock style, Thom Haye's presence made the flow of the Indonesian ball run smoothly in the match, especially in the first half. In this initial round, Red and White scored two goals.

Thom Haye is often the mastermind of Indonesia's attacks with his creation of accurate passes. He also appeared adept at cutting off Vietnam's attacks several times.

When the ball is at his feet, it is not easy for opposing players to snatch the ball from him.

Seeing Thom Haye's performance, the South Korean coach added that he was more than 100 percent satisfied with his performance.
