Absent from training and going to Saudi Arabia, Messi was punished by PSG
Lionel Messi was suspended from playing for two weeks by his club, Paris Saint-Germain PSG because he missed training and instead went to Saudi Arabia.
A number of French media have reported that Lionel Messi will be suspended from playing for two weeks. However, other sources say the ex-Barcelona player has only been suspended for a few days by PSG.
PSG retainers were actually promised two days off on May 1-2 if they win against Lorient. However, the 1-3 defeat was precisely what Messi et al got from Lorient, last Sunday 30 April. As a result, the May 1-2 holiday was cancelled.
The defeat prompted coach Christophe Galtier to ask his players to train on May 1.
Lionel Messi has actually asked PSG for permission to go to Saudi Arabia. However, PSG did not allow it.
The 35-year-old striker went to the oil-rich country to become Saudi Arabia’s tourism ambassador.
If he gets a 2 week ban, the player from Argentina will not play when PSG meet Troyes (8/5/2023) and Ajaccio (14/5/2023) in the French League.
