Accelerate PSSI Transparency, Erick Thohir Forms 2 Special Task Forces

– PSSI general chairman Erick Thohir will form two special task forces to speed up the transparency of Indonesia’s highest football body.

The two task forces are the task force to eradicate score fixing, as well as the financial supervision task force. The presence of these two task forces cannot be separated from Erick’s efforts to clean up the football federation from the bad and dirty image that PSSI has often labeled.

“Mr President fully supports the establishment of a task force to eradicate match fixing. I will gradually look for figures who are independent from the public to be able to oversee the eradication of match fixing,” Erick said in a statement at the GBK Arena, Jakarta, Friday (28/4/ 2023) afternoon.

“The president asked that after coordinating with the National Police Chief and the Attorney General’s Office to be able to oversee this year,” added the figure who also serves as BUMN minister.

Meanwhile, the financial supervision task force will work with Ernst & Young’s firm, which is currently exploring the financial audit process at PSSI.

Erick said that the move to form the two task forces had the full support of members of the Executive Committee. This support was given by the Executive Committee because they really want a football environment that is free from problems.

The two task forces will later be filled by several members of the Executive Committee as well as independent figures. They will collect data and conduct various studies, both in matters of match fixing which may involve referees, as well as the completeness of PSSI’s financial reports.

The SOE Minister has yet to provide detailed information regarding the membership composition of the two task forces. However, he stated that he would include former Head of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), Ardan Adiperdana, into the PSSI financial supervision task force.

Erick also denied the assumption that support from the government was a form of intervention, because according to him what the task force was doing with support from the government was a form of cooperation.

“This is not intervention, but cooperation. Just like renovating 22 stadiums, it is not intervention but infrastructure that must be built. So this task force is serious, and Exco supports it,” said Erick Thohir.
